Touching video: see what happens when Estonians and other nationalities share their deepest fears and dreams

23.12.2021

In autumn in Tallinn, by the request and with the assistance of the Estonian Refugee Council, a Lebanese director brought to life a video, which brings together people of different nationalities, backgrounds and skin colours to say: we have more in common than one might think judging by the surface.

"It was touching to see that when we brought for example together an Estonian man and an Iranian woman in front of the camera and said that you are both united by the fact that you have both lost your mother, the resulting shared connection between them was very warm-hearted," said the coordinator Madle Timm, Head of Communications of Estonian Refugee Council.

She added that because the format was short, just over three minutes, a lot was left out. "When I interviewed people for the filming, Estonians, Costa Ricans, Nigerians, Iranians and so on, it was sometimes unbelievable how similar all our stories are, no matter where we grew up. Usually, we don't go and ask strangers what their biggest fear or dream is, but there we did, and that sharing and openness ended up catching those emotions. Beautiful," said Timm.
