Raising the teachers’ and youth workers’ competencies relating to questions of migration and refugees and engaging the students in discussions relating to migration topics
The project is carried out by the Estonian Refugee Council and the University of Tartu Center of Ethics in co-operation with The Estonian Ministry of Education and Research.
The central target groups of the project are teachers, school principals, activity leaders, school psychologists, social pedagogues, youth workers and other specialists that deal with young people in their work. In addition to these target groups, young people that study in middle or high school will also benefit from the project.
The main goals of the project include:
- empower the educational workers in Estonia both in dealing with young people with migration and refugee backgrounds as well as supporting the education of children with migration backgrounds;
- offer interesting and youthful opportunities for young people to think about and engage in discussion about topics relating to migration and refugees;
- to continue supporting schools and youth centres in conducting discussions relating to values with their students.
The current project is a continuation of a project from 2016 “Preparing Estonian Schools for Handling the Refugee Topic and Supporting the Education of Refugee Children” funded by the U.S. Embassy in Estonia.
