Siin & Sääl brings new tastes
Social enterprise Siin & Sääl, together with refugees living in Estonia, put together video recipes of interesting dishes from different countries. In the first video clip, our cook and Arabic teacher Shereen Bilal teaches us how to prepare maqluba – a dish made from meat, rice, and eggplants. "I chose my favourite dish. I remember how my mother made it," explained Shereen her choice. "I used to watch my mother cooking with great pleasure. At the end, I invented my own methods how to prepare this dish, all the while keeping my mother's eastern style intact."
"Nowadays, everyone can watch how to make foreign dishes online. But it is quite different, more personal, if the instructions are given by experts living next to us right here in Estonia. From June onward, you can even meet and talk to the cooks at our cafe in Tallinn," said Margit Paju, the project manager of Siin & Sääl.
Siin & Sääl offers catering and serves food, holds workshops from African dances to Sri Lankan food and Syrian handicrafts. Social enterprise Siin & Sääl is set up by the Estonian Refugee Council together with refugees and people with migration background living in Estonia. Social enterprise is supported by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
