Empowering people with refugee and migration backgrounds to become more capable and visible
The aim of the project is to empower refugees and other people with a migrant background living in Estonia, to increase their visibility and positive image in society, and to allay fears, stereotypes and prejudices related to them. The project will further develop the social enterprise Siin & Sääl, which includes people with refugee and migration backgrounds and offers them employment opportunities, supporting its economic independence and sustainability so that it can attract and empower a larger number of refugees and people with a migration background. A series of roundtables “Integration Accelerator” aimed at local government specialists and run by refugees living in Estonia will also be held in six different places to promote the attitudes and tolerance of people working with refugees. Finally, a video calling for tolerance and mutual understanding, entitled "Similarities between us", is being recorded and distributed to promote societal attitudes and tolerance. The core team of the project consists of four people, two of whom have refugee backgrounds themselves and who acquire management and work skills and experience within the project. As a result of the project, refugees and other people with a migrant background living in Estonia will be more capable and competitive in the labor market, and Estonian local specialists and society at large will have somewhat more open and tolerant attitudes.
